So I went to the Almost Acoustic Christmas last night and man was it a good show. Remember how I said I'd never heard of the bands playing. Well I lied. Not so much lied as was mistaken. Several of them had songs I liked that I heard on the radio but never listened to who did them. So here is a rundown of the evening and my thoughts on the matter:

1. The Music- Pretty heavy, very mid nineties feeling. I wasn't to interested in them but they had this one song with a kick-ass drum session. Like the song broke down halfway and when they built it back up it had this heavy tribal beat that just grew and grew. It was cool.
Overall- 5 Not bad, but I wouldn't listen to them.
Hotness factor- Meh. 4 maybe.

2. Snow Patrol- I recognized one song and liked everything they did. More importantly however, I am now IN LOVE with their lead singer. He came on stage and I said to Liz- That dude's attractive. Then he opened his mouth and beautiful music came out. Then he started talking in a scottish accent and I was done for. But more on that later.
Overall- 10 I am a new fan.
Hotness Factor- 10 Lead singer is HHHHHHOT

3. Keane- I didn't recognize any of their stuff and didn't really get into it. They are good, but not my thing. So I spent their whole set inventing a personality for the lead singer of Snow Patrol. Keane's lead singer looks like a hobbit.
Overall-5 I got a bit bored.
Hotness Factor- 5, the other 2 guys weren't bad.

4. The Shins- I had also heard some of their stuff. They were pretty good and I might listen to them. The singer had a sexy receding hairline. Yes- I think receding hairlines are sexy.
Overall-8 probably a new fan
Hotness factor- 6

5. Taking Back Sunday- Liz and I took and intermission during their set. Loud, heavy. Not my cup of tea really.
Overall-4
Hotness factor- 5 they were ok for what I saw of them.

6. Muse- Had one song I knew. Had a cool light-up keyboard thing. Their lead singer/guitarist/keyboardiist is a fucking amazing musician. He busted out some classical piece in there somewhere. The did a really good set. It was the first back we got up to dance to. However, I don't know that I'd really listen to them at home.
Overall- 8, but probably not a new fan.
Hotness factor- 7

7. Modest Mouse- This was the only band I knew I was going to see in advance. I knew 4 songs, the most of any band. The did a good set. It was pretty much what I expected.
Overall-8 already a fan
Hotness Factor- 7 their drummers were cute. I think my friend erin and her husband know one of them. They know some guy in modest mouse named dave, but I forget what he plays. Maybe the drums and maybe they can introduce me ;)

8. Gwen Stefani- Yeah you heard me. I didn't get it either, but there she was with a marching band and dancers. Surprise indie rock fans- here's a little guilty pleasure for your christmas concert. Everyone stood up for her. I was a little annoyed by that at first because that didn't happen for the bands people actually paid to see, but then I realized everyone came for different bands and so the audience wasn't consistently excited. But Gwen Stefani is a big pop star, so I guess people got excited for that. She did 2 songs. it was fun.
Overall-6 I like No doubt better.
Hotness factor- 7 dig that crazy outfit Gwen- you design that yourself? Your legs look like a mile long. You're like a barbie.

9. Franz Ferdinand- They were very good. I have to say that. But my problem was that they were all a bunch of pretty boys. Like they just got picked up at the british prep school and are on winter break. And I kind of got the vibe that they knew they were hot shit. It was a little off-putting. But they made good music, so it's ok. And it's not like they were bad to look at. Not really my type- a little too good looking, like probably high maintenece. So I was a little on the fence about them. But they wre scottish, which gets extra points.
Overall-8 good performers and good music, even if they seemed a bit smarmy.
Hotness factor- 7 not my type.

10. The killers- Probably the best set of the night. Lots of energy, great catchy dancable songs. I really liked them a lot. The band was pretty consistenly attractive, but not really my type. The lead singer looked like a cross bewteen Ben affleck, Matt Damon and Christ O'donnell. It was a little weird.
Overall- 10 I am a new fan.
Hotness factor-8 not bad.

11. Interpol - I know interpol. I just forget they were playing. So I knew 3 of their songs. They get the award for most consistently attractive band members. They win over the Killers because the bassist looks like Crispen Glover, which is funny and funny=hot. It was like 'DO DO do DO do DO DO DO (Get your damn hands off her!) DO DO DO DO do do' Also because the when the keyboardist wasn't playing, he'd stand there with his hands to his sides staring straight ahead and not move. Which was also funny. I like interpol ok.
Overall- 8 they're ok. I get sick of them pretty easy though
Hotness Factor- 8

12. Jimmy Eat World- We only stayed about one song because I was exhausted and starving and neither of us really cared about them.
Overall- 6 for what I saw.
Hotness Factor-5 for what I saw.

Then we went and got crepes at teh city walk and walked back to the subway. Oh yeah, we took the subway and didn't have to pay for parking. Wooo! It was neat. First public transportation in about a year and a half I think for me. It was a good idea really. Saved money and trouble with traffic. Then we were too tired and went home to bed. I'm so glad I went. It was worth the money, especially now that I've fallen in love....
